I want to wish everyone a belated happy new year from the Broken A Ranch! Things have been SO busy here and we have started the new year off on a better foot than we wrapped up 2009. The death of Teagan made the holidays difficult to enjoy but we are moving forward with a purpose in 2010.
After lengthy pondering we have decided to tighten and pump up our program in 2010. What does this mean? It means perhaps more gelding going on, definitely more training and more horses for sale. I am currently keeping an eye out for new potential stallion prospects and perhaps a new mare or two for the future. The website is getting a complete overhaul in the late spring; complete with new pictures, video and more detailed information on what you can expect when you breed to one of our stallions.
I am thrilled to say that Rafer will be heading to TN after breeding season to train at C n J Training with Nikki. Our boy has big things destined for him. We are casting around for a cow horse trainer for Shamus, and still haven’t found the perfect fit as of yet – but the search is still early.
Happy Superbowl day!

I woke up this morning thinking it was VERY early.. just after dawn in fact, the light was dim and it just had the feel of nobody in the world awake except me. Until I rolled over and looked at the clock and saw it was after 8, which explains why my body didn’t go into shock being up at the crack of dawn LOL Then I heard the low growl of thunder and noticed the horses standing crankily in the rain ~ ah another day and its time to feed the ponies. Such is life.
The feed here, primarily the hay is so different than what I am used to. We are playing with the learning curve to find just the right combination to keep everyone fat and happy without too much waste. Its a process, but so far Missouri is much more appealing than Wyoming. Despite all the mud (deep enough to lose a small child or pet in I tell you!) its not bitterly cold and the lack of gale force winds is just amazing. Its been a long time since we have lived without the constant wind. Not to mention I heard that Wyoming just got something like 20 inches of snow in just a few days, snow is pretty.. but I think our days of living in harsh winters are over.
The horses are loving having trees, even though the mare pasture is going to need a little work before spring to maximize growth. Lots of underbrush to be cleared out to encourage the grass to wake up again. Here is a couple quick snaps of the new place, I will take more when I go exploring

and here are a couple from the sugar cane cook down at the neighbors

I have had some requests for new horse pictures on the site, and I will tell you now, Its not going to happen until late spring when things are dried out. Then I will be cleaning out ALL the substandard horse pics on the site and replacing them with pictures that better show what we have to offer you, as opposed to the random snaps that are there now.
Horse Training Update!
Buck and Torin are due to be gelded in January, after a nice freeze and the bugs have died down. Torin is still for sale and is going to make an exceptional halter prospect who can take you for a nice ride. Maggie will go under saddle in the spring and her price will increase with training, if she has not sold before hand and Buck will get some miles put on him and be reevaluated. There are also plans to get some more miles and training on Keeley after she foals, as well as get Illusion and Spook under saddle this year. Dependant on how they mature by this spring,we may hold off on starting Shamus and Rafer under saddle until 2010. We should have 2 Rafer foals for sale in the late spring.. it is his first crop and we have extremely high hopes for the crosses that were chosen.
In other Broken A news:
Avon is doing extremely well for me so far, if there is anything at all I can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact me or visit my Avon website – http://youravon.com/lbrannick . There are a tremendous amount of specials, and shipping is very reasonable so even if you are not in my direct area, I can certainly take care of all your Avon needs.
I will be putting together promotional packages for stallions and web design services in the near future. I don’t think we will be shipping on the boys this year, but next year is looking very good. Contact us if you have any questions in either area.
I am still on a quest for the perfect English Mastiff puppy to be the corner stone of our new breeding program. I will keep you posted when I find her!
I suppose I should get back to unpacking, its a gloomy rainy day, so lighting some spice candles and getting organized is probably my best bet.
Stay warm, stay safe and remember the Broken A Ranch for all of your homozygous paint horse needs.

Broken A Ranch has invaded Missouri!
We are here and have the cutest property! The horses are thrilled with their new pasture and trees, the babies weaned with no problem and Wild Blue satellite internet is MUCH faster than I thought it would be (nearly as fast as DSL)
We had to leave some things behind.. there was JUST no more room in the truck.. the 26′ truck was stuffed to the rafters and my truck was packed without an inch to spare. My cousins were great with helping out and my friend Beth flew out from Mississippi to help me move and she was just amazing! She went way above and beyond the boundaries of friendship.. even when we had no power or water the first night she didn’t decide to kill me. There was a crew waiting for us when we arrived at 9pm after 2 very VERY long and exhausting days of loading and moving and had the truck unloaded and beds set up for us in 2 hours flat. The horse pasture is incredible and the fence they built for me is just amazing. I talked to the guy who did it and he is going to give me a quote on building a stallion turn out area as well.
La Plata is a super cute town and there is an AWESOME little Amish community here that you drive by to get to the new house.. Beth and I stopped by and had to sample Amish baked goods.. purely for educational purposes of course.. they were quick to tell us about free coffee and donut Saturdays.. and they also make that gorgeous furniture! There is a local winery and a CORN maze! Lots of people seem excited that a web designer is in town ..I have had some interest already so we will see how that goes. There is even a small airport that does twice a day shuttles from St. Louis for a reasonable price so visitation should be super easy. Beth flew out on it tonight and I was sad to see her go.
Tomorrow I am springing the dogs out of their mudroom prison and setting up their new kennel and then back to work I go! I already found a farrier and a new potential hay guy who is delivered last night. My neighbors and everyone seem to be incredibly nice and helpful.
Just wanted to let everyone know we arrived safely and LOVE it here so far.
Take care!

Wow.. where did summer go?? Moving day is rapidly approaching and then we will be located in Eastern Missouri!! Think green grass and TREES! I am so big on trees since we haven’t had them in a number of years now. Since moving day is less than 30 days out at this point, any and all horse sales will need to be wrapped up and shipped by the 15th of September – I know its not much time but there is SO much to do, we just wont have time to deal with individual shipping after that date. If there is someone you desperately want to have.. and can wait till after October 1st.. we should be settled enough to start making deals again.
The boys are coming in for halter breaking soon, they are growing like weeds and now that I have a new camera that doesn’ t throw weird random black spots on everything, once we get settled in I am going to start upgrading all of the pictures on the web site and even throw in some video on sale horses as well. In the meantime, I of course will run out and take current pictures of anything you would like to see. Just ask!
One of the first things we intend to do after getting settled in for a month or so, is find a trainer to get the 2 year olds started under saddle. They will all be pushing 3 at that point so there is no time like the present to get them going and in a show ring. Remember prices will go up with training on sale horses! I would also like to get Buck and Keeley finished out and a couple more of the broodies started under saddle in 2010.
Lots to do.. and time is just ticking away.. so I am off to answer emails and update some websites. Remember.. I will be going back to *shudder* Dial Up when I first arrive.. so if you have a big website upgrade in mind… send your picture/graphic files over NOW so I can have them on hand when you are ready to go. Dial up is sooo not going to be fun but hopefully the DSL machine will move quickly into our new area and life will be good again.
Have a fantastic day!

So I have come up with a few package deals that are sure to please not only anyone looking to set up their own breeding program in the future, but someone looking for quality stock to expand their existing programs.
Buy a stallion, a bred mare and a two year old. A stallion and 2 mares bred to outside stallions for a well rounded start. A stallion, a bred mare and a yearling. Start young, buy a stallion, a yearling and a two year old and grow your program. Buy 2 bred mares to expand your herd. Lots of possibilities here!
None of the mares we are offering for sale are related to either stallion. None of the mares we are offering for sale are bred to Buck, so you can start your program with plenty of variety in your bloodlines. Buck and Torin are Sire/Offspring so we are not offering them as a package, however if you are interested in BOTH – Come and talk to us and we can make a deal. Something to keep in mind – ONE of the bred mares is located in Southern California, the rest of the horses offered for sale are here in Wyoming.
Package # 1 -( BEST deal!) Zan Eyed Buck and choose ANY 2 mares/fillies we have for sale $5600
Package #2 - Torin and choose ANY 2 mares/fillies we have for sale $5000.
Package # 3 – Choose any 2 mares/fillies we have for sale $3200

We have decided to refine our program a bit and are pleased to offer for sale:
Zan Eyed Buck – 2001 Buckskin Tobiano Stallion- Green Broke, a DREAM to hand breed and probably one of the most laid back stallions you will ever own. Out produces himself with each new foal crop, would be an excellent start to a paint horse breeding program, or a phenomenal gelding. Stands at approx 15.1-15.2 and is super quiet and easy to handle. $3000 firm He is also eligible for our Gelding Incentive
Doc Hollywoods Dream – 2002 Sorrel QH Mare. Broodmare sound only due to old injuries. She sells exposed to Rafer for a 2010 foal. Easy to catch and lead, stands for the farrier and trailers well. Produces nice minded well refined foals and has an excellent foundation pedigree. If she comes up open in 2010 we will re-breed her that season (live cover only) to your choice of our stallions $1800 would possibly consider a trade for a paint mare.
Comet Dimond Skipwood 2001 Bay Tobiano Mare – Excellent broodmare, produces lots of color bred even to a solid stallion. She is by Smooth Jet Comet and is very representative of his outstanding foals. She is not broke to ride but I think if you put some time into her she would take to it nicely. She sells exposed to Lord Jeffrey for a 2010 foal, a cross that produced an outstanding B/W (possible smokey black) tobiano colt in 2007 (see him here) If she comes up open in 2010 we will re-breed her that season (live cover only) to your choice of our stallions (or possibly Lord Jeffrey) This mare is located in Southern California $1800(neg)
Torin (APHA reg pending) -2009 Breeding Stock Palomino Colt – Correct in every way, plus a baby doll head and huge hip. Torin has an outstanding future no matter what you do with him. Blow them away in the show ring then decide if you should geld him or not. $1800 before weaning in September, his price will go up after that. He is also eligible for our Gelding Incentive
Shez ona Hot Streke 2008 Dun tobiano fully with a performance pedigree that wont quit. Pretty and refined enough to halter, Athletic enough to go the distance, whether it be barrels, cows or reining. She should mature about 15h and is ready for her new home today. $2000
Docs Skippa Smoke 2007 B/S Sorrel Filly. Outstanding filly! She is correct, leggy, fast and bred to the hilt. She will take you anywhere you want to go. She is developing a slight roaning over her flank and it wouldn’t surprise me if she turns out to be a high color producer when she is bred. I am expecting her do be about 15h when she is done growing. Her pictures do not do her justice she is absolutely gorgeous. $1800
Please don’t hesitate to email me (liz@brokenaranch.com) with questions on any of the above horses. Additional pictures and pedigree information is available on their individual web pages.
